World Youth Day 4 All Coalition in Madrid

August 25, 2011

Grantee News from Catholics for Choice

You may have heard that Catholic World Youth Day is taking place right now in Madrid, Spain, where over a million young Catholic pilgrims have gathered in celebration.

Catholics for Choice is there, having created a unique World Youth Day 4 All coalition, a global initiative led, organized and staffed by young people from Azerbaijan, Belize, Bulgaria, El Salvador, Ireland, Jamaica, Morocco, Nicaragua, Poland, Uganda, the United States and Venezuela. The coalition is a partnership between the following organizations: Advocates for Youth (USA), Catholics for Choice, Católicas por el Derecho a Decidir Nicaragua, Católicas por el Derecho a Decidir El Salvador, YouAct—European Youth Network on Sexual and Reproductive Rights, International Planned Parenthood Federation, Irish Family Planning Association and PONTON (Poland).

The message they are sharing with the World Youth Day pilgrims is “Good Catholics Use Condoms” and they’ve got the pope on their side, citing his statement late last year acknowledging that condoms use can be an effective and moral step in preventing HIV transmission. The coalition members have been live blogging and posting photos of their advocacy. More>
