Family Advisory Board

The Foundation created the Family Advisory Board in 2000 to allow the new generation of Compton leadership greater participation in its philanthropic activities. The Family Advisory Board awarded $350,000 in 2002 and $350,000 in 2003 in the following areas:

  • Arts: emphasizing children, youth, healing, and spiritual evolution.
  • Children and Youth: emphasizing holistic education that includes physical, social, emotional, and spiritual learning.
  • Sustainable Living: emphasizing organic agriculture, environmental education, sustainable local economies, and conscious community design.
  • Spiritual Awareness: emphasizing the integration of mind, body, earth, and spirit.

The Family Advisory Board particularly encourages projects that recognize and promote connections between these categories.

Proposals for the Family Advisory Board are accepted by invitation only.

Campaign Finance

The Compton Foundation makes a small number of grants to support campaign finance reform, which the Foundation believes can contribute to progress in all areas of its grantmaking, through amplifying the public voice and diminishing the power of special interests. Because this is a very small program area, the Compton Foundation funds the campaign finance field by invitation only, and does not accept unsolicited proposals.
