Ivone Barriga Ramirez

Ivone Barriga Ramirez Ivone is a second-year PhD student in the Theatre Historiography program at the University of Minnesota. She is interested in "cholo" performances developed by Indigenous migrants in the city of Lima as well as sixteenth century Peruvian theatre historiography. She received her M.A. in Theatre Theory and her B.A. in Theatre Arts from the University of Sao Paulo, in Brasil. Ivone has worked as a theatre director, assistant director, actress and theatre educator in theatre projects in Sao Paulo and Lima.

Research Statement: I aim to study performances of ethnicity and gender in Peruvian region to explore the impact of the identity politics on the life of Indigenous populations, vis-a-vis the fact that my society is facing the political and material cost of 22 years of

internal conflict (1980-2002) As embodied practices, theatre and performance are a medium to learn and disrupt dominant representations about minority populations. This discussion is crucial to re think topics related to minority groups' agency and civil rights, such as environmental problems, post-conflict peace building, and social and geographical exclusion.
