I studied Sociology in Costa Rica and Demography in Chile. I work at the University of Costa Rica since 1989 as a professor in Sociology Department. Actually I am part of the research team at Central American Population Centre (Centro Centroamericano de Población, CCP http://ccp.ucr.ac.cr/ ).
I have been involved in several research projects, such as Poverty and Population in Costa Rica, Family Structures and Life Cycle, Consumption Patterns in Costa Rican Families, Estimation of National Demographics Indicators, Small Areas Poverty Estimations, Immigration impacts in Costa Rica, among others.
Also I was national consulter for the design, collecting, processing and analysis of The 2000 National Population Census of Costa Rica.
In 2005 initiate my PhD at the same university in which I work, on a program of Cultural Studies http://www.sep.ucr.ac.cr/Doctorados/soccultura/index.html. In this moment I am defining my focus interests for doctoral research, towards Masculinities and Reproductive Health between Costa Rican Men.
My further research for doctoral thesis will carry out a Survey among young and middle age men living in urban areas of Central Region of Costa Rica, in order to establish links between a typology of masculinities behaviors and some reproductive practices, and also to identify their knowledge and opinions about Responsible Paternity Law (aprobed in 2001).
