Adriana Lopez Ramirez, 2007 Fellow

Biography:
This fall I will be starting my fifth year as a graduate student in sociology at Brown University. Before attending Brown, I worked for 10 years as a researcher and analyst for various government agencies in Mexico, including the Ministry of Health, the National Population Council, and the National Institute of Statistics.
I received a BA in physical anthropology from the National School of Anthropology and History in México, completed coursework for an M.A. in demography from El Colegio de México, and received an M.A. in sociology from Brown University.

Research Focus:
My current research interests focus on the inter-relationship between social exclusion and inequality and demographic dynamics, and its effect on gender relations. I am particularly interested on the determinants of internal and international migration, and on the consequences of migration behavior in the process of family formation and reproductive health decisions.
