This fall I will be starting my fourth year as a graduate student in sociology at Brown University. Before attending Brown, I worked for 10 years as a researcher and analyst for various government agencies in Mexico, including the Ministry of Health and the National Population Council, where I helped to develop the current national program on population issues. I received a BA in physical anthropology from the National School of Anthropology and History in México and completed coursework for an M.A. in demography from El Colegio de México. I also have an M.A. in sociology from Brown University. My current research interests focus on the interrelationship between social exclusion and inequality and demographic dynamics, and its effect on gender relations. I am particularly interested on the determinants of migration, both national and international, and migration patterns among Mexican indigenous population, and the consequences of migration decisions and behaviors for reproductive health issues. My most important achievements have been winning a national prize for my bachelor’s thesis, and receiving a grant from The British Council to study in London for a year.
