Geography/Ghana

I was born and grew up in the capital city of Ghana, Accra. I attained my bachelor's degree with first class honors in Geography and Resource Development at the University of Ghana in 1999. This was followed by a Master of Arts in Geography at York University, Toronto Canada where I researched the Ghanaian ethnic economy in Toronto. I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree at the Department of Geography, University of Minnesota.

My extensive and on-going education in Geography as well as lived experience in Ghana amidst rapid and poorly planned development efforts dictated by precarious goals of modernization have shaped my research interest in the informal sector and micro-enterprise development. For my doctoral dissertation I will be researching how Botswana's "developmentalist state" engages the informal sector in its development project. Such research has resonance for other countries in Africa grappling with the informal sector problem.
