Alejandro Masis, 2003 Fellow

Alejandro Masis, MA
University of Missouri
Department of Biology
Home Country: Costa Rica

Alejandro, a Costa Rican biologist, graduated from Kansas State University. Currently, he is researching the response of diversity and abundance of dung beetles after two different timber harvest techniques in the Missouri Ozarks. He has a deep interest in the "biodevelopment" of the conserved wildlands of Costa Rica. He would like to see the conserved areas become more than just "parks" for tourism. He believes the potential in education, research and community involvement not only are essential for their survival, but also make these areas more "productive" for the benefit of everyone while conserving biodiversity. Alejandro has worked with the Area de Conservacion Guanacaste(ACG) and the Instituto Nacional de Biodiversidad (INBio). He coordinated several inventory projects and learned a great deal about how conservation can be achieved in entrepreneurial ways.
