Efitre graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Makerere University. He was employed as a Graduate Research Assistant attached to the Rwenzori Fisheries Biodiversity Project (April – October 1995) based at the Uganda Institute of Ecology, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda. He has a Masters of Science degree in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences from Makerere University. In his master ’s thesis research, he examined some aspects of the ecology of benthic macroinvertebrates in Lake Nabugabo, Uganda. Efitre worked in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park as a Water Quality Consultant (March – November 1999). The objective of the research was to provide baseline data that would be used for long-term monitoring of aquatic habitats in the park. He has also served as the Project Manager for the University of Florida Research Program based at Makerere University Biological Field Station (MUBFS), Kibale National Park. Currently, Efitre is pursuing a Ph.D. program at the Department of Zoology, University of Florida. His Ph.D. dissertation research focuses on developing fish yield-predictive models for the Crater Lake fisheries in western Uganda that will promote effective management of the fisheries, increase local protein availability, and provide economic incentive to discourage deforestation of crater rims.
