Sociology
University of Wisconsin at Madison

I grew up in an apartheid-created Indian township south of Johannesburg. After completing my high schooling independently, I pursued a degree in Sociology at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. I was awarded the distinction of Best Graduate of the Year, and was appointed a year later as a Lecturer. A Fulbright scholarship allowed me to complete a Master's degree at the University of Wisconsin -Madison, where I have continued towards a PhD. My academic work and publications focus mainly on the sociologies of knowledge, science, and race/ethnicity, all of which reflect my commitment to understanding knowledge categories as essential elements of securing peaceful and democratic social orders.
