Rachel Waxman

Rachel Waxman is an MPH candidate at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University in the Program on Reproductive, Adolescent and Child Health. Her main area of interest is reproductive health and safe motherhood. This summer, Rachel completed her practical experience for her degree as an intern with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Eritrea. Her work was primarily focused on emergency response activities for the populations affected by recent drought and displacement due to the border conflict with Ethiopia. Rachel worked to organize project activities and prepare the project document for the Emergency Reproductive Health Services Project. This project is aimed at providing reproductive health services and emergency obstetric care for populations resettling in the border areas. Rachel's interest in reproductive health began during her service as a health extension agent with Peace Corps in Senegal, West Africa, where she worked with a village clinic on management, outreach and educational issues for maternal and child health and prevention of communicable diseases. Rachel received her BA in Sociology and Psychology from Connecticut College. Rachel would like to continue to work in program design and management for reproductive health in the future.
