Thanh Huyen Vu

Thanh Huyen Vu is a fifth year Ph.D candidate in Sociology/Demography at Brown University. Ms. Vu is working on her dissertation entitled "Maternal Education and Regional Variation in Child Health in Vietnam".

Before coming to Brown, Ms. Vu spent 4 years working in the National Institute for Protection of Mothers and Newborns in Vietnam as a medical doctor. While working there, she was involved with several national and UN projects on maternal and child health care and family planning. Through these projects she developed an interest in maternal and child health research. She later attended Mahidol University, Thailand for her Master's Degree in Population and Reproductive Health. Her master thesis was on "Determinants of Continuation/Discontinuation of Injectable in Northern Vietnam".

After her training in Bangkok, she returned to Vietnam and became a lecturer in Hanoi School of Public Health. She taught courses in Maternal and Child Health Care and Family Planning. She was also involved in several research projects in collaboration with the Institute of Sociology, the Department of Social Affairs of the Parliamentary Office, the National Committee for Population and Family Planning, WHO and UNFPA Hanoi.

Ms. Vu's research has focused on women and children's health, family planning, and family. She has several publications (in Vietnamese) and has presented several papers in academic conferences in the US and Asia.
