Grace Servat
Grace is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Biology at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She completed her undergraduate work in Biology at Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima, Peru, her native country. Grace worked in the National Museum of Natural History and had the opportunity to travel to very remote areas as a member of various scientific expeditions. She came to the United States to pursue graduate studies and received a M.Sc. degree in Ecology, Evolution and Systematics at the University of Missouri at St. Louis in August 1995. Her Bs. and Master's theses were related to bird ecology from a lowland tropical rainforest called Manu located in the Southwestern part of Peru. Recently, she obtained a Graduate Certificate in Conservation from the International Center for Tropical Ecology at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (May 2001).
At present, she is writing her Ph. D. dissertation at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, (expected date of graduation: December 2001). Once again, the subject of her work is birds, but she has moved from the lowland tropical forests to the High Andes of Peru. Grace has written ten papers related to her work in various scientific magazines and has published short articles for the general public in "El Comercio" one of the main newspaper in Peru.
