Jose Juan Rodriguez Romero
Jose Juan Rodriguez Romero was born in Spain where all his family live. Before arriving to Costa Rica, he received a Bachelor's degree in Geography and a Master's in Latinoamerican Studies, both obtained from the University of Salamanca, in Spain. Mr. Rodriguez Romero is a citizen of Spain but lives in Costa Rica in a migratory condition of "permanent resident" for three years. Actually, in the capital city of Costa Rica, San Jose, he is working towards a Master's degree in Centroamerican Sociology from the University of Costa Rica. Mr. Rodriquez Romero's thesis is "Geopolitics, internal migration and the border conflict between Nicaragua and Costa Rica during the eighties." During the academic year, he also works as a teacher of Social Studies in a "state penitentiary," located in a rural area, near San Jose. There he also works as a sociologist with groups of "privates of liberty." Some of his academic areas of interest include: transition to democracy in Central America, international narco-traffic, migration and border issues. He has participated in electoral processes in Guatemala (1999) and El Salvador (1998) as an "international observer" within local NGOs. Mr. Rodriquez Romero has collaborated on various articles for the review "America Latina, Hoy" publication of the University of Salamanca.
