Samantha Lobis
Samantha Lobis is a MPH student at the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University, where she is focusing her studies on reproductive health. Currently, Ms. Lobis is doing an internship with the Regional Prevention of Maternal Mortality Network (RPMM) at a district hospital in Ghana. Her internship project is on the quality of obstetric care. Prior to pursuing her graduate studies, Ms. Lobis worked with the International Refugee Program at the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights in New York. The focus of her work with the Lawyers Committee was the creation of a network of West African NGOs working to protect the rights of refugees in West Africa. In addition, while working at the Lawyers Committee, Ms. Lobis conducted research on refugee women's right to health in camps in Guinea. Ms. Lobis became interested in West Africa while serving as a public health and community development Peace Corps Volunteer in Guinea where she worked on different projects including the training of HIV/AIDS educators and helping to start women's groups in a rural community. Ms. Lobis received her BA in cultural anthropology and women's studies from Union College (NY).
