Karen Deutsch
Karen Deutsch is in her final semester of the MPH program in Forced Migration and Health at Columbia University. In New York, she works as an AIDS program research assistant in the New York Presbyterian Hospital AIDS treatment program. This summer, with the assistance of the Compton foundation and Columbia University, she travelled to Sierra Leone with the International Rescue Committee to design an HIV prevention proram for Kenema District, in the Northern part of the country.
Prior to this summer, most of Karen's international work has focused on Central America. She lived and worked for three years in Costa Rica and while there, was able to work with NGOs from around Nicaragua, Belize and Cuba. In addition, she spent one semester working for the Institute for Shipboard Education and travelling around the world on the SS Universe Explorer.
