Do you fund internationally?
The Foundation primarily funds U.S.-based organizations. For further information, see specific categories of Peace, Population and Environment.
Should we send a letter of inquiry?
No. As we are a small foundation, we typically cannot respond to letters of inquiry. If you feel that your project or program is a good match for our guidelines, please submit a full proposal by following our application procedures.
What are the cut-off dates for receipt of proposals?
Proposals must be received by 5:30 P.M. in the Compton Foundation office on March 7 for Board consideration in June and September 7 for Board consideration in December.
If the cut-off date falls on a weekend, proposals will be accepted on the following Monday.
Do you accept emailed or faxed proposals?
No, we only accept proposals sent by regular or express mail services.
Do you give grants to individuals?
No grants are awarded to individuals. The Foundation makes grants only to organizations and institutions that are recognized as charitable organizations by the federal government.
Can a proposal be written in a language other than English?
No, we are unable to process requests in languages other than English.
Would you consider more than one proposal from an organization in the same year?
Unless initiated by the Foundation, the Board will only consider one proposal from each organization per year.
Can we send an overview of multiple projects or programs for your consideration?
No. Proposals must outline one specific project or program.
When will we hear about our proposal?
The Foundation Board meets twice a year. Proposals received by March 7 will be reviewed by late June and those received by September 7 will be reviewed by late December. You can expect a reply no later than six weeks after the Board meets.
