The Compton Foundation
Director of Grants Management & Investment Accounting
Organization
Located in Redwood City, the Compton Foundation was established as a trust in 1946 and was incorporated
into a family foundation in 1972. In its early days, the Foundation was a thought leader addressing
peace and world order, rapid population growth and depletion of natural resources. While our overarching
concentration has not changed, we have evolved over time and have added some areas of focus to our grant
making. Reproductive health has been integrated into our population work. Sustainability has been added
to our work in natural resources, and a newer program in peace and security has been added which seeks
to promote peace in regions of armed conflict by addressing policies and practices that provide for human
safety. Furthermore, projects that explore the interconnections of these categories are of special interest
to us.
The Foundation has assets of approximately $85 million and an annual grants budget of $5-6 million. The
Compton Foundation's grant making program has a staff of seven.
